Your phone is at 12 percent by lunchtime again, and you keep seeing headlines about a new Motorola phone with a 7,000mAh battery. A small voice says: wait for this one. Before you wait, let us sort out what is real about the Motorola Edge 70 Neo, what is only a leak, and whether waiting makes sense for you.
Motorola has not launched this phone, or announced its price, date or most specifications. Almost everything you have read comes from leaks. Read every number below as “reported, not confirmed.”
What Motorola has actually confirmed
Only two facts are on the record. In September 2026, in a press release around the IFA trade show, Motorola said the Edge 70 Neo “will roll out in India over the coming months” — no date, no price, no specifications. And the phone has appeared on Geekbench, the benchmarking database, running Android 16 with 6GB of RAM and a Qualcomm chip identified as the SM7635, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, scoring 723 single-core and 2,943 multi-core. Those are test-unit numbers, but they pin down the chip and software with reasonable confidence.
The rest comes from leaks — mainly 91mobiles with tipster Sanju Choudhary on 26 October 2026. Treat it as a strong rumour, not a spec sheet.
The leaked specs, in short
- Display: 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED, 144Hz, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.
- Processor: Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, LPDDR5X RAM, UFS 3.1 storage; 6GB or 8GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB storage.
- Cameras: 50MP Sony LYTIA 710 main camera (f/1.8), 2MP macro, three-in-one light sensor; 32MP front camera.
- Battery: 7,000mAh with 45W wired charging.
- Design: 8.49mm thick, 204 grams, IP64 dust and water resistance.
- Software: Android 16; four OS updates and five years of security updates reported.
- Colours: Mountain View, Milky Blue, Sage and Gray Lilac.
A big screen and a huge battery
A 6.78-inch 1.5K display at 144Hz makes scrolling smooth and video sharp. But it is a big phone — larger than the 6.36-inch Edge 60 Neo, which never came to India. If you like one-handed use, the “Neo” name may mislead you.
The 7,000mAh battery is the headline: two days of normal use for most people. But charging is only 45W, modest by 2026 standards — think overnight charging, not a fifteen-minute top-up. And a leak tells you capacity, not real-life endurance, which only testing can show.
The cameras: where the leaks disagree
Know this before you get excited: the leaks contradict each other. Renders from August showed four lenses with “200MP” branding. The October leak says two rear cameras — a 50MP main sensor and a 2MP macro, with no telephoto lens. The newer leak is probably closer to the truth, but nothing is settled until Motorola speaks.
In plain language: the 50MP sensor should take good daylight photos. The 2MP macro rarely earns its place. Without a telephoto lens, zooming means cropping the main photo, which loses detail. If zoom matters, this may not be your phone. For everyday shots of people and food, the main camera looks fine on paper.
An older chip — not a disaster
The Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 launched in 2024 and already powers the Nothing Phone (3a) and Redmi Note 14 Pro+. For everyday use it is comfortably fast and power-efficient, which helps the big battery. For heavy gaming or video editing, newer chips will beat it. An earlier MediaTek Dimensity 7450 rumour was contradicted by Geekbench, so expect the Snapdragon. The same chip and screen appear in Motorola’s Edge 70 Plus, fuelling an unconfirmed theory that the Neo is a rebrand — though the Plus has a 200MP camera and smaller 6,500mAh battery.
Price and launch date: two very different stories
Be most careful here. Digit puts the expected price close to Rs 40,000 (an earlier report named Rs 38,999, as does Smartprix). But TelecomTalk reports under Rs 30,000 — a ten-thousand-rupee gap, and nobody outside Motorola knows which is right. Do not budget for either number.
Timing is vague but consistent: soon. Digit points to early November 2026, TelecomTalk to the second week of November. Motorola accidentally teased the phone in August, so a launch in the next few weeks would fit — but “soon” is not a date.
Should you wait for it?
Picture a student whose old phone dies before the last lecture and needs charging twice a day. Waiting a few weeks for a 7,000mAh battery could genuinely change daily life — if the price lands right. But if your phone still survives a full day, waiting for an unannounced phone at an unknown price is a gamble with no payoff date.
Decide simply. Wait if your current phone still works and battery life is your main complaint. Buy something available now if your phone is failing, if you need a good zoom camera, or if you want the newest processor. And never pre-order or pay anyone claiming to sell the Edge 70 Neo before Motorola announces it — the phone is not on sale, and anyone taking money for it today is selling a promise, not a phone.
What is still unknown
- The exact launch date and official price in India.
- Whether the two-camera setup is final, or the August renders were closer.
- Real battery life, charging time and camera quality — no leak can measure these.
- Which colours and RAM/storage combinations reach India, and whether wireless charging or a charger in the box is included.
One last thought
As leaked, the Edge 70 Neo is built around one idea: stop worrying about the battery. A big screen, a huge battery, clean Android and years of updates — genuinely appealing for anyone tired of carrying a charger. But a leak is not a launch. Watch for Motorola’s announcement, compare the real price with the real alternatives, and decide with your head, not the hype. The best phone is the one that still makes sense after the excitement fades.
